Cape Dutch is a restaurant I held on my dining bucket list for several months. Located in Midtown Atlanta, it’s described as a Modern South African Steakhouse. The decor is crisp and minimal and the atmosphere feels elegant yet relaxed. My husband (Steeler Fan) treated me to dinner there as a birthday treat and it turned out to be a relaxing memorable experience. Our reservation was scheduled an hour after opening so there weren’t many guests when we arrived. It gets pretty busy and a bit noisier during evening service so, so we chose to dine early. What a great decision that turned out to be.

Cape Dutch | Cosmopolitan & Flight 201

To start the evening, we ordered cocktails and an appetizer. The Cosmopolitan was good but the Flight 201 was a fantastic super boozy sipper.

Cape Dutch | Branzino

For dinner, I chose the Branzino which is typically served whole but I opted out of having it served with the head. The fish was tender, flaky and seasoned nicely.

Cape Dutch | Center Cut Filet

Steeler Fan ordered a Center-Cut Filet, cooked well done. In many restaurants, well done means that the steak will be served burnt. Fortunately, that was not the case at all here. It was grilled beautifully and was full of flavor. I don’t even eat beef that heavily but I would be willing to order that steak, prepared exactly the same way.

Cape Dutch | Belgian Pommes Frites and Carmelized Brussels Sprouts

Our sides included the Belgian Pommes Frites and Carmelized Brussels Sprouts. Both were delicious!

Cape Dutch | White Chocolate Bread Pudding

For dessert, we played it safe and tried the White Chocolate Bread Pudding. It was acceptable but not as good as I had hoped. The bar was elevated pretty high as we worked our way through cocktails, entrees and sides. This dessert fell short and turned out to be just okay. Next time we’ll try the Callebaut Belgian Chocolate Soup. I hear it’s wonderful!

Overall we had a great time at Cape Dutch and I look forward to another occasion to prompt our return visit.

UPDATE: Cape Dutch is now permanently closed but this experience will continue to live on in our memories.
