When it comes to travel these days, the simple things are often the best. I needed a break recently and decided to scratch this beautiful destination off of my bucket list. Falls Park on the Reedy River is located in Greenville, SC and offered one of the most harmonious public environments I’ve been in for quite some time.

The park was much larger than I imagined with plenty of options for sitting alone, with a companion or a small group. Admittedly, I felt like a toddler taking first steps as I strolled through the park. Aside from the grocery store, it’s been a long time since I’ve been in close visual proximity to a large number of people. The outdoor setting helped to buffer any anxiety I may have had.

As the country re-opens, I suppose we’ll all have to reacquaint ourselves with the idea of sharing indoor and outdoor spaces again. I just hope folks are as friendly and mindful as the ones I encountered here were. Maybe the spirit of calm was a by-product of the Falls. There’s just something about that sound.

There’s so much to behold as you stroll through the park – floral accented greenery, ivy covered bridges, ducks cruising along the creeks, music playing in the distance, little nooks with welcoming benches suggesting that you sit and just be still….

This one diversion meant everything to me. I was able to relax, rest and reset and I can hardly wait to return again and again. Fortunately, the drive to Falls Park isn’t too much longer than my morning commute through the Atlanta area.
