For the past couple of years, my daily commute has led me past the Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta Hotel. While cruising by, I’ve often wondered what it must be like inside. Had I stopped just once to take a peek, I would have discovered ArtBar, a comfortable lounge/pub serving up delicious cocktails and food while spreading a little art love.

ArtBar | Sonesta Dream

As luck would have it, I received an opportunity to experience ArtBar for the first time as part of a media event with other Atlanta area bloggers. A Sonesta Dream cocktail welcomed us into the dimly lit lounge while a display of dishes representing the new seasonal menu created by Executive Chef, Kevin Davis tempted our palates.

My sister and I shared this particular experience but I think Steeler Fan, would appreciate a place like this as well. He wouldn’t have any trouble cozying up to the bar for a drink with a couple appetizers and a moment to watch the game. Yes, there are television screens mounted around the bar so there’s that.

As far as the menu goes, there were Pimento Cheese Fritters with red pepper jam and candied pecans, loaded Brisket Tacos and amazing Sweetwater 420 Fish & Chips. I’m not really a beer drinker but I completely respect its contribution to the crispy crust and tender fish I practically inhaled.

Other menu items included Deviled Farm Eggs, Spinach and Strawberry Salad, Blackened Shrimp & Grits and more.

Dessert options included Crème Brulee and White Chocolate Bread Pudding. Both were tasty but bread pudding, no matter where it’s served, tends to incite debate. Generally speaking, you’re either a fan or you’re not. If you are not, it’s likely because you haven’t tried it or you had a bad experience with one.

ArtBar serves a respectable version which is sweetened just right and the texture is moist enough to make it worthwhile. If I had to throw an option out there for consideration, it might be rum sauce. That may be out of habit since it’s what I do at home or maybe it’s because bread pudding and rum sauce seem to have a symbiotic relationship.

Overall, our ArtBar experience was a pleasant one. The vibe was laid back with good food, awesome drinks and great energy! I’ll see it differently the next time I drive by after work because I know it’s a place where I can pull over to unwind with the realistic expectation of having a great time. Give it a try – I believe you’ll enjoy it too!
